Unveiling centuries of stories.

Cliffe Cottage, a grade two listed building dating back to 1465, has a rich history. For nearly a century, it served as a basketry, with its studio dedicated to crafting baskets and the living room doubling as a shop for these handmade goods. After falling into disrepair, the cottage was lovingly restored by local artist Jo Lamb in 2011.

This historic gem is home to some of Lewes’ oldest oak beams, prominently featured on the first and second floors. Originally constructed in the 15th century as an open hall with no floors, it underwent renovations in the 17th century to add floors and other enhancements. Cliffe Cottage is nationally significant, preserving rare medieval fragments within its walls, a testament to its unique history.

These historical elements coexist with 17th-century extensions and original wooden floors, making Cliffe Cottage a captivating blend of the past and the present.
